Twist Me Up

I love love LOVE how this flower clip came out! ;) Naturally though, I only got one shot of her wearing it, and not really a great one either! Geez. ;) Anyway, this was a fun style and one I have done again since because I just like the feel...
I started by twisting her bangs to the side, while keeping the front a little poofy. The easiest way I can describe this is that you want to roll the hair down rather than pulling it to the side and twisting. Make sense?
Well, I did this twice and pinned them down for a moment. Then I used these two twists to start a french twist in the top of this side of her hair.
After finishing the french twist, I did a simple twist with the rest of the hair. I have done this a lot, but I'll give a quick over view of the idea. You just take a piece near the front and then grab the next piece and wrap it around. Grab another piece, working your way back and twist the pieces around each other. You should have just two pieces at any given time and continue to add and wrap them around each other. This is not the same as the french twist which is much harder. ;)
I did this same twist/roll on the other side with all the hair.
Then I put it all in a side pony. I made a messy bun out of this and added the flower clip!
It really looked pretty and she got a lot of compliments! Just wish I could give you a better picture of the finished look. ;)

Fireworks Hair

Extra post today... I realized I better get this out right away if you all were going to see it before the 4th. ;)
Alexandra asked me for fireworks hair and this is what I came up with...
I originally wanted a flag look, but Alex fell asleep and then asked for the fireworks. Anyway, I started, as always, by parting the hair into sections and pulling back the ones I wasn't using.
I did one french twist braid and switched to traditional french braids, not sure why. ;)
On the other side of the hair in front, I made puff braids with lots of sections. Pretty simple really. I didn't have white elastics, but considered using some white ribbon to do stripes.
I haven't had this problem before, but a few of the elastics broke. You can see the places they should be... Anyway, there is a third row here. I thought it would look neat to make rows all the way across the back and then pull it all together into a low side ponytail/bun. We ended up tossing everything up into a messy bun and then I stuck a few pipe cleaners randomly into it. They stayed on their own just fine!

In the end, it looked really adorable and fun. And we got quite a few compliments at the Wet'n'Wild days at our Zoo. ;)

My Favorite Style... on an adult ;)

Finally back online after the cruise... Holidays can be so crazy! ;) Anyway, this is my go-to style when I can't think of anything else. And I found that it looks very nice on adults also. But first, here is a sunset shot I took from the ship...
Okay, so french twist braids from each side and then pulled together in back.
I started the braids just above her ears and continued them back. When I got to the back area, I stopped doing a french twist and just continued with a regular twist braid. I had her hold that while I did the other side and then I pulled them together in the middle.
I think this looked so nice! ;) A very sleek style. I loved it with her straightened hair.
Okay, so glad to be back! I have tons of new things going up in my Etsy shop. Bows make great stocking stuffers. ;) Also, I'll have one last giveaway for the year coming next week! Miss all of you, blog family! ;)

Mixed up braids & Three Little Piggies

Alex asked me for something really fancy today, so I just took my time on this one. Actually, I had no clear idea of what I was doing until about half-way through. ;) Well, this is how it started...
I parted the top section of hair at a sharp angle and then parted the right half. I made a french braid from the middle and going out to the far right piggie. Then I took half of the hair from the right ponytail on the bottom row and added it to the far right middle piggie too.
I did basically the same thing on the left side except that I made a french twist braid this time.
Next I took the remaining loose section and did a regular braid, but I started it near the bottom. I crossed it over to the middle piggie.
I did this on the right too, but swapped it again and did a twist braid.
There are still two pieces of hair sticking out from the bottom ponies. I pulled these up to the middle piggie. Then I made messy buns. I added flower clips, but apparently didn't get pics of the finished 'do. Oops...
Still, it was adorable. And Alex loved it! ;)

An updo for short hair

I have been wanting to try this style on top, but just kept forgetting when I was actually fixing her hair. Anyway, I think this is a pretty 'do that could be worn for a wedding if you just curl the ends.
To start, I parted the hair far to one side in a sweeping sort of curvy motion(yes, I just said that;). Next I parted out each twist braid section in the same manner, holding each back with an elastic. French braids or twist braids, or even pony braids will work for this style.
I one section at a time and continued with a normal braid/twist braid when I had reached the end of the section, then secured the end with an elastic. After I had the braids finished on both sides, I gathered them all up into an elastic. Then, I was able to remove the elastics from the ends of each braid and fan out the remaining hair.
For the back, I just pulled up the hair that didn't fit up to into a ponytail and did a pull-through going up. You could do a messy bun, curls, tease, whatever to give the hair a little oomph so that the two bits blend together.
Alex still had a little that wouldn't go up, but I think it was cute and would have looked pretty with a quick curl;)
I added flowers to top off the look and was pretty happy with it. Alex was excited to have her hair "up, puddy" again;)

Before I go, I want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my last post with comments and emails. I really appreciate your feedback (both positive and honest criticism alike!) I really enjoyed making her outfit and would love to sell custom sets in the future, so your ideas and suggestions are always welcome. As always, I am honored that you have visited my blog! Thank you;)

Twist and back and twist and back... piggies;)

This one turned out so super cute! ;) I think I may do this for her upcoming bday... I think it is one of the cutest I've done and Alex just loves wearing "parkles" and her candy bows, so this was a win-win;)
And, of course a gazillion pics because, well, that is one of my favorite parts of this whole deal... you know, the fun pics of my girl;)
Especially this one... I think she got it this time!!! Lol, too bad I am using my old "baby" digital for close-ups right now. It turned out just a tad grainy...
Okay, so this is the start. I started with a zigzag part, though hindsight what it is, I will tell you an easier way;) I suggest parting the sides out all the way down, leaving what could be a mohawk out. Go ahead and put the sides into elastics.
Next you'll want to take the first two little section from one side of the zigzag and do a twist braid with them, secure with an elastic.
Next, use the end of that pony and the next section on the same side of the zigzag to make another twist braid, secure with an elastic.
Continue this 'til you reach the bottom section and add all of it to the piggie.

Next, I made the piggies messy by teasing(yeah, I've been doing that a lot lately) and then I added those "parkles". This would be the two bottles of spray glitter that are left over from LAST Halloween! Hahaha, we've gotten a ton of use out of these;)
I added her streamer candy clips and that was that! As you can probably tell, she dressed herself again.
This next one is her "cwazy" face!
And a sweet, sweet smile!

;)

Back from Hiatus... with a new pixie cut!

Okay, so, this is the last real 'do we did before her new cut. Actually, I was sad after I cut her hair the first time. I think because it was just shorter, but I hadn't given her a style or anything. Anyway, this is just a french twist braid... something I've done a zillion times;)
And here is the top view, pretty style!
Okay, here it is! The first look at Alex's new pixie look. Now she has some sass to go with her... well, sass! ;)
This is the best one I could find to show how I fixed it. Since her hair was wet after we had finished cutting it, I blowed dried it gently for a few minutes. Next I took a 1" curling iron and flipped out the ends slightly. This took about a minute.
Next I just did a random zigzagish part and added a clip to keep her bangs back. No product or anything, so this got a little smooshed in the car, but it bounced back. This last picture is about and hour after we arrived at our destination...
Yep, pretty stinkin' cute!
;)

Criss-Cross French Twist Braids into Piggies

Okay, so this one has no tutorial at all, sorry! But it is the same style as the last post with a little extra:) My hubby's camera is a compact digital and I think I can take videos with it...
I hope these pictures are enough to see what I did differently for this one.
I did exactly the same thing for the twist braids around the top. As I got to the back, rather than ending with an elastic, I continued the twist braids diagonally and to the bottom. I just did one side and then did the other right over it.
This is the best picture I got of the top... it is really pretty. You could definitely change this style up just a bit and have a beautiful wedding look.
It would look great laced with ribbon or accented with tiny flowers:)
And my favorite view:)
