Toddler "Y" Braids

Because they're always asking "WHY??" Here's a Y braid just for toddlers :)

I started with a zig zag part down the center of her head, small zig zags this time - for variety.

Then I took up a section of hair parallel with the zigs and split that in half.

At this point I have a temp clip in one section and I'm going to start braiding the other section of hair.

After braiding down about halfway, maybe a bit longer, I held it with a temporary clip. Notice how I only clipped two of the strands of the braid? and left the third strand out? I did that on purpose! :) Then I did the same with the other section of hair. (Braided it just over halfway down.)

Next I removed the temporary clip and laid both braids over the top of each other! I tried to make the strands sort of line up and then I continued braiding! As though I still only have 3 strands. (Well, which I did only have 3 strands of hair because I had joined the two braids into one.)

I braided down to the ends and then added some beads!

(You can see the purple elastic I used because her hair was thick enough that the beads couldn't fall back down over the hair and elastic! But I thought it was still cute. More color...)

Daddy 'Do!

He really likes the beads, I guess :) I love it!

For this one it looks like he twisted each strand individually, and added a bead to it. Then twisted them together and added a bead to the end of the twist.  I don't have any more picture, unfortunately, but he did one of these twists on each side of her face - he likes keeping her "bangs" out of her eyes!

Valentine Daddy 'Do!

My sweet, sweet husband let me sleep in this morning - and ended up doing Q's hair today, too! Doesn't it look adorable?! He's so clever :D

 

I didn't see it done, but it looks like he parted it into four sections, then braided each one and added beads! He adds beads by slipping the bead on and then putting an elastic underneath it to hold it on. He did that for each bead :)

Cornrows!

:) Ok, so I know Q doesn't have the "right" hair to do cornrows, but after so much talk about french braiding I've been having lately, and then I saw an incredible heart hairdo on a great blog...Beads, Braids and Beyond ... and I just had to give them a try. Here are the instructions she linked to for learning how to braid cornrows.

I LOVE them! I left them in for 4 days! :)

 

  

  

and then, the second day they were in, that little bit of hair at the back of her head wanted to flop over and cover the cute little braids...so I added one last cornrow (with a twist!)

 

and I added the beads using the instructions from another great hair blog ... Princess Hairstyles ... we didn't lose a bead the whole 4 days! (Including going to playtime at gymnastics!)

I Just Couldn't Be More Proud!!

Look at what my amazing, creative, super sweet hubby did today!! ALL by himself! :D

 These pictures just don't do it justice, but he did a twist braid on each side of her head and finished it off with a bead! :D  He said he slid the bead on and then added an elastic, which tied off the braid as well as held the bead on.

He said he thought it would keep it out of her eyes without using a clip. :) (He put two clips in her hair yesterday! They looked so cute. :)  )

I'm soooooo proud of him! :D :D

Things to SEE!

Q's hair is at that perfect length where if I leave it down it hangs in her eyes and she has to tip her head back to see (and walk!). Basically she's a collision waiting to happen! So here's the way I used today to keep her nose out of the clouds. :)

To do this, just take up the amount of hair you want in a little ponytail on top of her head... then loosely add an elastic to make the ponytail. Next, part the hair under the elastic and slip the hair that's in the pony - through the hole! You now have an inverted (or pull-through) ponytail! I added beads to make it interesting. :) (and once I get that method perfected, I'll be sure to post about it! lol)
